Arthur Sutcliffe: One actor and ten years of tiny plays

Gi60 has undergone a greet many changes since it first premiered at the Harrogate Theatre studio in 2004 as part of the Write On new writing festival. Gi60 is now an international event, The Gi60 UK Live edition has been performed in five different spaces in three seperate theatres (Harrogate Theatre , stage@leeds Leeds and our current home at Dean Clough, Halifax) and the festival now boasts its own blog, you tube channel and facebook sites. Gi60 has evolved and one actor has seen that evolution first hand. Arthur Sutcliffe performed in the very first 'Gi60 UK Live edition' and has performed in every Live edition since. Artthur is the only actor to have appeared in all nine previous annual festivals (sadly he missed the G(hosts)i60 event as he was out of the country) and we are extremely pleased that Arthur will be part of the cast for Gi60 UK Live edition 2013.

As this is also Arthurs 10th Gi60 Anniversary we thought it would only be appropriate to speak to him:

"I first got involved with Gi60 as a member of the Harrogate Theatre Youth Group when Gi60 was just a small cast performing in the studio. I have been acting since I was six years old and have been in many Harrogate Theatre Youth Theatre productionsd and Pantomime's. I was unable to take part in G(hostsi60 as I was working at Saint Joseph Secondary School in ghana assisting with teaching (I even tried to start a Ghana Gi60). I have been involved with Gi60 from the start and have had the privaledge to perform many wonderful plays in some fantstaic environments. It's had its up's and downs but it is always a hugely enjoyable to work with so many amazing people."

I can honestly say that Gi60 UK Live edition wouldn't be the same without Arthur. His skills as an actor on and off stage together with his wisdom, intelligence, support and kindness of spirit are a large part of what makes Gi60 so much fun to return to year after year (he also has access to some brilliant costumes :O)  ). He can play a household pet, a superhero or a lost soul looking for love with equal dexterity and always knows where his blocks should be set. 2014 will be Gi60's tenth International year, a real milestone for us and we have some really exciting things planned to celebrate this monumental occasion. We all hope that once again the name Arthur Sutcliffe will be on the cast list.

Thanks Arthur.

Ten4Ten (Gi60 Celebrates ten years of tiny plays)

CALL FOR PLAYS from UK writers

Ten4Ten
Celebrating 10yrs of Tiny Plays

To celebrate ten years of Gi60 live on the UK stage we are looking for ten one minute plays (one for each year) from British writers who have never had work performed as part of the festival

Gi60 (Gone in sixty seconds) is the world’s only International One Minute Theatre Festival and this year Gi60 celebrates ten years of tiny plays live on the UK stage. Gi60 was created by ScreamingMediaProductions artistic Director Steve Ansell in 2003 as part of the ‘Write On’ new writing festival at Harrogate Theatre, the event became international in 2004 with the assistance of Professor Rose Bonczek and the launch of Gi60 US live at Brooklyn College, New York.

Each year Gi60 premieres 100 new plays, all of which are recorded and made available on line at the Gi60 You Tube channel.

When Gi60 started, short form theatre was almost unheard of and often overlooked as no more than a gimmick. Over the years we have shown again and again that it’s a form of theatre that offers a unique opportunity for writers, actors and audiences. It seems that our efforts over the last decade have not been in vain; short form theatre is now being embraced by mainstream theatres and companies across the country.

We already have over 450 play submissions for this year’s festival but to celebrate ten years of Gi60 live on the UK Stage we are looking for ten one minute plays (one for each year) from writers in the United Kingdom that have never had their work premiered as part of Gi60. Each of the chosen ten writers will be featured on the Gi60 blog and in the Gi60 UK live festival programme as well as having their work performed as part of Gi60 UK Live at the Viaduct Theatre, Dean Clough, Halifax on Saturday June 8th.

Plays can be about any subject as long as the work is totally original and the play lasts no longer than sixty seconds.

If you would like to be one of the featured writers please submit your play by email to screammedia@yahoo.com by Midnight April 30th with the subject line ‘Gi60 10.4.10’

For full terms and conditions visit the Gi60 blog www.gi60.blogspot.com

In the last decade Gi60 has premiered over 800 new plays (over 600 can be viewed on the Gi60 youtube channel) Got a minute….

(Entry to Gi60 is free and copyright remains with the author. Gi60 is open to anybody, of any age, from anywhere.)

Gi60 Needs your support!

Gi60 is 10yrs old this year and this has coincided with a national interest in 'small' theatre with both Sheffield Theatre's and Slung Lo running short theatre events. Gi60 is the daddy of the short play, The Glastonbury of tiny theatre but we have not been a particularly vocal force. If Gi60 is to continue and garner the recognition it and you deserve we need to spread the word. The Gi60 blogspot, facebook and especially the twitter account will be very active from now until the live shows. Please spread the word, follow us on twitter, retweet and get other to follow us as well. I would like to get a 1,000 followers by the end of march. Spread the word BIG NEWS about small plays

Steve Ansell is looking for plays...

Hi,
I realise that this is the forum for tiny plays but I am currently looking for two longer pieces for possible production in 2013/2014.

1. The alternative Christmas project: I am looking for a full length ensemble script (cast of 8+) that would be performed as an alternate Christmas show. This may or may not relate directly or indirectly to Christmas/Solstice/Kwanza/Chanuka/new year or the festive season.

2. The female project: I am looking for a piece 45mins + with a cast of no more than four that features a strong female lead.

In both cases I am looking for scripts that I can commit to emotionally (I want that most elusive of things, a script that makes you laugh, cry and think). If you would be interested in submitting please send a synopsis and five pages of the script to screammedia@yahoo.com with the heading 'Alternate Christmas' or 'The Female Project'.

Your submissions will only be read by me only and no work will be used in any context without your written agreement.

Gi60 Actor Lucy Read on BBC 3
